  • Microsoft Word 2002
  • Microsoft Office Word 2003

This article was previously published under Q282593

SYMPTOMS

You save a Microsoft Word document in one of the following formats:
  • WordPerfect 5.0 (*.doc)
  • WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS (*.doc
  • WordPerfect 5.x for Windows
The document contains either a JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) or GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) image. If you then reopen the document in Word or open it in WordPerfect, the image is turned upside down (rotated) and reversed (mirrored). The image quality is also degraded. For example, the clarity and color may not match the quality of the original image.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, save the original document that contains the correctly displayed images in either Rich Text Format (RTF) or Microsoft Word document format. To do this, select one of the following file types in the Save As dialog box (on the File menu, click Save As):
  • Rich Text Format (*.rtf)
  • Word 97-2000 & 6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc)
  • Word 6.0/95 (*.doc)
  • Word Document (*.doc)
