WD2002: Location of First Endnote Changes After You Insert Second Endnote with Different Location (282551)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2002

This article was previously published under Q282551

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 2002, when you attempt to add a second endnote that has a different Location property from the first endnote, the first endnote picks up the property of the second endnote.

For example, if you select the End of section option for the first endnote and then select the End of document option for the second endnote, the first endnote acquires the End of document property.

This behavior does not occur with footnotes.

CAUSE

In Microsoft Word 2002, endnotes are implemented as a document-wide property rather than a section property, even though you can specify where to apply the changes: in the section or to the whole document. You can insert endnotes either at the end of the document or at the end of a section, but you cannot use both settings within the same document.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
