Schema Changes Are Not Removed When Setup Is Cancelled When You Use ForestPrep (282475)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server

This article was previously published under Q282475

SYMPTOMS

When you run the ForestPrep utility on Microsoft Mobile Information Server, and you use the setup.exe /vforestprep=1 command, if Setup is cancelled, you receive a message from the Installer that states that the Schema extensions have been rolled back. However, the schema changes are not removed by this roll-back procedure.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. Schema changes are one-way changes that cannot be removed from Active Directory.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, if ForestPrep is not completed successfully, correct the cause of the problem, and then run ForestPrep again. (Problems with ForestPrep can be caused by Domain Name System [DNS], incorrect permissions, physical networking failure, and so on.) ForestPrep checks for each schema extension. If the extension is not applied to Active Directory, these extensions are added when you run ForestPrep again. The schema extensions cannot be rolled back; therefore, you can ignore the Installer message that states that these schemas were rolled back.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2001.
