This article describes how to set Outlook to check messages at specified intervals.

You may want or need for the Outlook client to automatically check for new messages at specified intervals. This feature is helpful if you are connected to your e-mail server through a non-persistent or dial-up connection. In Outlook, you can dial-up and connect to the server, download messages, and upload new messages that you have created. After you establish a working connection and an e-mail account, use the following steps to set Outlook to check messages at a specified interval:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Mail Delivery tab, click to select the Check for new messages every check box.
  3. In the Minutes box, click either the UP ARROW to increase or the DOWN ARROW to decrease the checking interval time. Outlook automatically checks for new mail every 10 minutes by default.
  4. Click Apply, and then OK.
