XL2002: Find Command Is Unsuccessful When Data Is in a Filtered List (282142)

SYMPTOMS

If you search a Microsoft Excel workbook for data that you are certain is in the workbook, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Excel cannot find the data you're searching for. Check your search options, location and formatting.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are searching for text, values, or formatting that is contained in a filtered list and the filtering criteria prevents the text, values, or formatting from being displayed. This behavior is by design of Excel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you need to select each sheet, set the filter criteria to Show All, and then perform the search.

To show all data in a filtered list, on the Data menu, point to Filter, and then click Show All.
