This article describes registry changes that you can make to optimize Mobile Information 2001 Server performance for multiple-processor servers.

By default, the number of threads that are allocated to the Message Processor service is set to five. This number is optimal for single-processor servers. You may want to increase the number of threads for servers that contain more than one processor. The following table lists the optimum number of threads for each multiple-processor configuration.

To set the SMTPThreadPoolSettings value:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
  2. Locate the SMTPThreadPoolSettings value under the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\DMI

  3. On the Edit menu, click DWORD, type the new value, and then click OK.
  4. Quit Registry Editor.
