PUB2002: Prepress: Cannot Set Different Screen Angles for Multiple Spot Colors (281741)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2002

This article was previously published under Q281741

SYMPTOMS

When you try to set a different screen angle and frequency for more than one spot color at print time, you can choose only Spot Color in the Advanced Print Settings dialog box. You cannot set a different screen angle or frequency for the other spot colors in the document.

CAUSE

Publisher 2002 does not allow you to set separate screen angles and frequencies for each spot color that may be defined in a spot color or process color publication. In Publisher 2002, all spot colors are printed by using the same spot-color screen angle, as defined in the Advanced Print Settings dialog box at print time.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you can manually output different screen angles and frequencies for more than one spot color in a publication by printing each separation separately. To do this, follow these steps.

NOTE: The following steps assume that your publication is already in "Process + Spot" or "Spot Only" mode.

How to Manually Print Color Separations

  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. In the Print dialog box, click Print Separations.
  3. In the Separations list, click the color or spot color separation that you want to print.
  4. Click Advanced Print Settings.
  5. On Print Settings, click the Device Options tab.
  6. Click Use Custom Settings Below.
  7. In the Spot Color, Frequency, and Angle boxes, type the value that you want for each.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK to print this range of plates for the spot color that you selected.
  10. Repeat steps 1 through 9 for each of the colors and spot colors in the publication.
