WD2000: Invalid Page Fault in Mso9.dll When You Use Bullets and Numbering (281520)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use bullets and numbering in a Word document, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Invalid Page Fault in Module Mso9.dll

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the List Gallery Presets are damaged in the Windows registry.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, delete the List Gallery Presets key from the Windows registry. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Close all Microsoft Office programs.
  2. On the Start menu, click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK. Notice that Registry Editor appears.
  4. Click to expand the following subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\List Gallery Presets

  5. Click to select List Gallery Presets.
  6. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File. Notice that the Export Registry File dialog box appears.
  7. In the File name box, type A:\Gallery.
  8. Insert a blank formatted disk in the floppy drive, and then click Save.
  9. Select List Gallery Presets.
  10. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  11. In the Confirm Key Delete dialog box, click Yes.
  12. On the Registry menu, click Exit.
  13. Start Microsoft Word.
