Method 1: Custom Insert Method

If you want to insert a single image from a scanner into your Word document, you can use the Custom Insert method. This method uses the software that came with your scanner. To insert an image into Word with this method, follow these steps:
  1. Start Word.
  2. Place or insert the item that you want to scan in (or on) the scanner.
  3. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From Scanner or Camera.
  4. In the Insert Picture from Scanner or Camera dialog box, select your scanner in the device list, and then click Custom Insert.
  5. Follow your scanner software procedure for scanning images. When your scanner is finished, the image is inserted into your Word document.
NOTE: The image is inserted where the cursor is located.

  1. Start Word.
  2. On the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Microsoft Office Tools.
  3. In the Microsoft Office Tools list, click Microsoft Office Document Scanning.
  4. Place or insert the item or items that you want to scan in your scanner.
  5. In the Microsoft Office Document Scanning dialog box, make sure that the Original is double sided check box is selected, and then click Scan.
  6. When your scanner finishes scanning the pages, make sure that all the pages that you want to insert into your Word document are selected.
  7. On the File menu, click Save.
  8. In the Save As dialog box, make sure that TIFF appears in the Save as type box, name the file, and then click Save.
  9. Return to Word.
  10. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
  11. In the Insert Picture dialog box, select your scanned image, and then click Insert.
The images that you scanned are inserted into your Word document.

NOTE: If your scanner preset resolution is not 300 dots per inch (dpi), you will be prompted to change your resolution settings for your scanner. Change the resolution settings when prompted, and then click Scan to continue the imaging process.
