SYMPTOMS

The Task Scheduler tool notifies you of a missed task every time you start your computer until that scheduled task is completed correctly (as scheduled).

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use any of the following methods:

Method 1

Change the schedule for the missed task to run in two minutes from the current time. Allow it to complete normally. Change the task back to its original schedule. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the view all Control Panels link if you can not see the Scheduled Tasks Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Scheduled Tasks Control Panel to open it.
  4. Double-click the task that is being missed.
  5. Click Schedule, and then change the start time to two minutes from the computer time.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Wait for the task to complete normally.
  8. Set the schedule back to its original time.

Method 2

Delete the task that is being missed if that is an option. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the view all Control Panels link if you can not see the Scheduled Tasks Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Scheduled Tasks Control Panel to open it.
  4. Click the task that is being missed.
  5. On the File menu, click Delete.
  6. Click Yes to delete the task.
NOTE: If this is not a task that you scheduled, PC Health Scheduler may be causing the missed notices. PC Health Scheduler is a system feature; it is not recommended that you delete this task.

Method 3

Disable the notification. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the view all Control Panels link if you can not see the Scheduled Tasks Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Scheduled Tasks Control Panel to open it.
  4. On the Advanced menu, click Notify Me of Missed Tasks. This will remove the check.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

This is different from Windows 98, and Windows 98 Second Edition. In Windows 98, Task Scheduler notifies you once, and then not again until something else is missed. Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows 98 Second Edition users will also experience this issue if they upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, which uses the same version of Task Manager as Windows Millennium Edition (Me).
