OL2002: You Cannot Restart the Profile Wizard After You Cancel It (281055)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Office XP without an e-mail profile configured and you work on a document and click Send To on the File menu, click Mail Recipient, and then click the Accounts button next in Microsoft Word 2002, the Outlook 2002 Profile Wizard starts. If you click Cancel to cancel the Outlook Profile Wizard, Outlook does not start the Profile Wizard on subsequent starts.

CAUSE

This is by design.

If you run through First Run with the Configuration and Account setup for Outlook 2002 and click Cancel during the Profile Wizard, Outlook remains in a No E-mail configuration state until you manually add an account to change it from the No E-mail state.

WORKAROUND

To manually configure an account after you cancel the Profile Wizard from Microsoft Word 2002, access the Account Manager from either the Mail icon in Control Panel or by right-clicking the Outlook 2002 icon on your desktop to access the account Properties. To do this:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, click the Mail icon or right-click the Outlook 2002 icon on your desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Show Profiles button.
  3. Click the profile in the list, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the E-mail Accounts button, and add the necessary information to configure an account for this profile.
