This article describes how to close and turn off the Works Portfolio that is installed by the programs that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To close the Microsoft Works portfolio, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Click the X in the upper-right corner of the Works Portfolio.

Method 2

  1. Click Works Portfolio on your desktop to open the Portfolio.
  2. Click Tasks.
  3. Click Close.

Note When you close the Works Portfolio, you may be prompted: Do you want to start the Portfolio every time Windows Starts? Selecting Yes will not cause the Works Portfolio to start when you start Windows. You must start the Works Portfolio from the Start menu.

WORKAROUND

If the Works Portfolio will not start when you start Windows, use the following methods to work around this problem.

Method 1: Start the Works Portfolio Manually

To start the Works Portfolio manually, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click All Programs.
  2. Point to Microsoft Works.
  3. Click Microsoft Works Portfolio. The Portfolio will start.

Method 2: Add the Microsoft Works Portfolio to the Startup Group

To start the Works Portfolio automatically when you start Windows, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click All Programs.
  2. Point to Microsoft Works.
  3. Right-click Microsoft Works Portfolio, and then click Copy.
  4. Right-click Start, and then click Open.
  5. Double-click Programs.
  6. Double-click Startup.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Paste. This will add a shortcut to the Startup menu.
  8. Restart Windows to allow the Works Portfolio to start.
