OFFXP: Office Shortcut Bar Does Not Disappear from View When It Is Placed over a Document Window (280658)

SYMPTOMS

The Office Shortcut Bar does not disappear from view when it is not in use. You expect it to disappear, because you configured the Office Shortcut Bar with the following settings:
  • You selected Auto Hide between uses.
  • You cleared the Always on Top check box.
This problem occurs when you do all of the following actions:
  1. You dock the Office Shortcut Bar (move it to the edge of the desktop).
  2. With the Office Shortcut Bar docked, you configure it with the following settings:
    • You select Auto Hide between uses.
    • You clear the Always on Top check box.
  3. You start an Office program, and then drag the Office Shortcut Bar over the document window.
  4. You click anywhere in the document window.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, dock the Office Shortcut Bar (drag the Office Shortcut Bar to the edge of the desktop). The Office Shortcut Bar will now disappear when it is not in use.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
