OFFXP: Unable to Delete Web Folder Created on the MSN Network (280611)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Passport account on the Microsoft Network (MSN), a Web folder is automatically created in My Network Places under My Web Sites on MSN. When you attempt to delete this Web folder, you receive the following error message:
Unable to delete passport account
You are unable to delete the Web folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

When you create any other new Web site on MSN, you are able to delete the new Web folder that is created.

Create a Web Site on MSN

To create a new Web site on MSN, follow these steps:

NOTE: You will need to have a Microsoft Network Passport Account to perform these steps.
  1. Click the following link to visit the MSN Web Site.
  2. Under Passport, click sign in.
  3. In the Sign-in name box, type your sign-in name. In the Password box, type your password, and then click Sign In.
  4. Under MESSAGE CENTER, under Communities, click My Web Sites.
  5. Click File Cabinets.
  6. Under Take it all with you, click MSN File Cabinets.

    Notice that the Create your own Web site page appears.
  7. In the Choose a name for your site box, type a unique name for the Web site.
  8. In the What is your e-mail address? box, type your e-mail address. In the What is your nickname? box, type a nickname.
  9. Under Will your site contain adult material?, click Yes or No.
  10. Click to select the I have read and accept the Code of Conduct check box, and then click Continue.
  11. Under Customize your Web site, click Create my site!
Notice that a new Web folder has been created in the My Web Sites on MSN folder.

Delete a Web Site on MSN

To delete a new Web site on MSN, follow these steps:

NOTE: You will need to have a Microsoft Network Passport Account to perform these steps.
  1. Click the following link to visit the MSN Web Site.
  2. Under Passport, click sign in.
  3. In the Sign-in name box, type your sign-in name, then in the Password box, type your password, and then click Sign In.
  4. Under MESSAGE CENTER, under Communities, click My Web Sites.

    Notice that the Welcome! page appears, and that your Web sites are listed under My Web Sites.
  5. Click the web site that you want to remove.
  6. Under folder listing, click Manager Tools.
  7. Under Manager Tools, click Site Settings.
  8. Under Site Settings, under Current Status, click Delete Site.

    Notice that the following Microsoft Internet Explorer dialog box appears:

    You are about to permanently delete the community name Community.
    You will not be able to undo this change.
    Are you sure you want to delete this community?

  9. Click OK.
Notice that your site is deleted, and that the Web folder no longer appears in the My Web Sites on MSN folder.
