OFFXP: The Error Reportee Name Is Truncated in the Microsoft Application Error Reporting Dialog Box (280577)

SYMPTOMS

When the Microsoft Application Error Reporting dialog box appears, the company name in the following sentence may be truncated:

Please tell company name about this problem.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you configure your own Corporate Error Reporting policy by using System Policies, and the company name string (String to replace 'Microsoft' with during reporting policy setting) is greater than 30 characters.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the Corporate Error Reporting name to a length of 30 characters or less. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office Tools, point to Microsoft Office XP Resource Kit, and then click System Policy Editor.
  2. In System Policy Editor, open your system policy file.
  3. Double-click Local User.
  4. Click the plus sign next to Microsoft Office XP.
  5. Click the plus sign next to Corporate Error Reporting.
  6. Click to select the String to replace 'Microsoft' with during reporting check box.
  7. In the String to replace 'Microsoft' with during reporting box, type a text string that is 30 characters or less, and then click OK.
  8. Save the system policy file to the appropriate location.
