Ccport.sys File Not Found on Windows 2000 CD-ROM (280501)

SYMPTOMS

When you install a 3Com USB ISDN TA modem, you may be prompted to insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you do so, you receive a "File not found" error message when Windows 2000 attempts to copy the Ccport.sys file.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if an incompatible driver package installed the Oem.inf file in Winnt\Inf. In this case, the Driver Installation Wizard prompts for the location of the Ccport.sys file. The Ccport.sys file does not exist in Windows 2000 or the driver package. Presently, the file is only available on the Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Delete or rename the Oem.inf file so that the Update Driver Wizard does not continue trying to install the incompatible driver.
  2. Run the Update Device Driver Wizard from Device properties.
  3. Click Display a list of known drivers.
  4. Click Show all hardware of this device class.
  5. Click 3com US Robotics Pro USB ISDN TA.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
