Multiple Spooler Resources Are Not Online (280452)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

This article was previously published under Q280452

SYMPTOMS

If you create multiple spooler resources by using the command line-based utility, Cluster.exe, only the first spooler resource comes online. The other resources do not, and the following error is generated:
Event ID 1069
Source: ClusSvc
Description: Cluster resource spooler failed

CAUSE

You can only have one spooler resource per group. The Cluster Administrator utility does not perform a check to see if a spooler resource already exists. If you attempt to create multiple Print Spooler resources through Cluster Administrator (CluAdmin.exe), it will generate the following error:
An Error occurred attempting to set properties:
The object already exists
Error ID: 5010

RESOLUTION

Delete the additional spooler resources in the same group, and then create them in separate groups.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Cluster.exe in the products listed in the beginning of this article.
