The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Small Business Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q279998

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Exchange System Manager, and you right-click Microsoft Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes, click Properties, and then click Retrieve Now to manually retrieve mail, the connector may not respond to the command. For example, router triggers and dial-up connections are not initialized, and no warnings or Event Viewer messages are logged.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you click the Retrieve Now button while the Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes is already in the process of retrieving mail from a POP3 server. Subsequent commands to download mail are ignored until the Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes completes its current download cycle.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, right-click Microsoft Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes, click Properties, click the Diagnostics Logging tab, and then set all logging levels to Maximum to monitor the progress of the connector. After the following event ID message is logged, the Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes accepts new requests to retrieve mail:
Event ID: 4009
Source: POP3 Connector
Description: Flushing transaction complete.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes.
