Error Message: ISA Server Cannot Save the Properties. The IP Range Already Exists in the Local Address Table. (279928)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Small Business Server 2000
  • Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q279928

SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to enter an exact duplicate of an already existing local address table (LAT) entry, you may receive the following error message:
ISA Server cannot save the properties. Error 0x80040340. The IP range already exists in the Local Address Table (LAT).

RESOLUTION

Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server enables the overlap of Internet Protocol (IP) address ranges to be created in the LAT. However, the use of overlapping entries in the ISA Server LAT is not recommended, as it may cause unpredictable performance with the ISA Server program.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The overlap of IP ranges is possible in the LAT of the ISA Server management console. The overlap can enable the creation of a new entry, which can consist of an already existing "From" IP address, or an existing "To" entry, but not the duplication of an existing "To and From" IP range in the LAT entries.

For example, if the following LAT entry exists:

From 10.0.0.0 To 10.255.255.255

You can create the following LAT entry:

From 10.0.0.0 To 10.255.255.254

However, you cannot create a duplicate LAT entry.
