The Reply-to Address May Need to Be Changed for POP3 Connector Recipients (279893)

SYMPTOMS

The reply address for a recipient may not be automatically updated when you add a single-user entry in Microsoft Exchange Connector for POP3 Mailboxes (POP3 Connector) in Small Business Server 2000. In some cases, you may have to change the default reply-to address for the Exchange account of the recipient to match the e-mail address that had been specified in individual POP3 Connector properties.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, manually change the default reply-to address of the user:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers. (This step can also be performed from the Small Business Server Administrator console.)
  2. Locate the user you want to modify in the Active Directory Users and Computers console, right-click the icon of the user object, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the E-mail Addresses tab.
  4. If you want to replace the existing e-mail address of the user, click the default reply-to address of the user, and then click Edit. Change the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) address in the resulting dialog box to match the SMTP address of the POP3 account, click OK, and then click OK to save the setting.

    If you want to retain the original e-mail address and add the SMTP address of the POP3 mailbox as the primary account, click New, and then on the New E-mail Address dialog box, click SMTP Address. Enter the SMTP address, and then click OK to save the address. Click the new entry, and then click Set as primary to set the new SMTP address as the default reply-to address for the user. Click to clear the Automatically update e-mail addresses based on recipient policy check box to prevent any modification by the Exchange default recipient policy. All messages sent from the account of the recipient display the intended SMTP address.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Small Business Server 2000.
