WD2001: "Save As" or "Open" Dialog Box Starts at Active Folder (279854)

SYMPTOMS

The Save As dialog box or the Open dialog box (on the File menu) starts at the active folder, not at the file location set for documents on the File Location tab in the Preferences dialog box, as stated in Microsoft Word Help.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

WORKAROUND

To temporarily work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Set all applications to use the Documents folder in the General Controls control panel. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. On the Apple menu, select Control Panels, and then click General Controls.
    2. In the Documents section, click the button next to the Documents folder, and then close the General Controls dialog box.
  • Navigate to the folder that you want from within the Open dialog box or Save As dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Service Release 1.
