FIX: Problem with MAYSCRIPT Applet When Locale Is Set to Turkish (279789)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run a Java applet that is created with MAYSCRIPT, you may receive the following error in Internet Explorer's status bar:
Exception occurred while executing action netscape.javascript.JSException: MAYSCRIPT is not enabled for this applet.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the regional settings are configured to Turkish.

RESOLUTION

NOTE: If you are using Windows 2000, you must install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 before you upgrade the Microsoft VM.

To resolve this problem, install build 3802 or later of the Microsoft virtual machine (Microsoft VM). For more information, visit the following Microsoft Web site: WARNING: After you install the updated Microsoft VM, you cannot uninstall it.

WORKAROUND

There are two ways to work around this problem:
  • Use "mayscript" instead of "MAYSCRIPT" to create the applet.
  • Change the regional settings to a locale other than Turkish.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This bug was corrected in Microsoft VM build 3802.
