SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Links or Microsoft MechWarrior 4, you may receive the following error message:
"STOP : FAILED (0xc29b8d10 - WINERR_) - Set(EAX_ReverbProperties, EAX_ENVIRONMENT) Address: 0x00571929 Location: FileTypeClass::LoadSubFile()+0x59719

STOP: FAILED (0x80004005-winerr_unspecified error) - play(0,0,not looping)

STOP : FAILED ( WINERR ) - one or more arguments invalid

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when DirectSound attempts to initialize certain 3-D audio effects.

This error has been reported with sound cards based on Yamaha chip sets.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, download and install the latest sound card driver from your sound card manufacturer.

Do Not Play the Introductory Movie

Note This resolution section only applies to Microsoft Links.

Remove the game CD-ROM from your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive to skip the introductory movie.

Reduce Audio Hardware Acceleration

To reduce audio hardware acceleration, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
  3. Click the Sound tab.
  4. Under DirectX Features, move the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider all the way to the left (the No acceleration setting).
  5. Click Exit.
Note When you reduce the audio hardware acceleration, you may turn off certain special sound effects.
