Clip2002: Menu Items Are Unavailable When a Clip Collection Is Selected (279487)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Clip Organizer 2002

This article was previously published under Q279487

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Clip Organizer and select a clip collection on the collection tree, many of the menu items are unavailable (dimmed).

For example, on the Edit menu, the only command that is available is Select All. Other commands that you may want to use, for example, Rename Collection, are unavailable. On the File menu, commands such as New Collection or Collection Properties are also unavailable.

In addition, if you right-click these collections, most options in the context menu are also unavailable. These options include the following list:
  • New Collection
  • Paste Clip
  • Delete "ClipName"
  • Rename "ClipName"
  • Move "ClipName" To...
  • Copy "ClipName" To...

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the clip collections that ship with Microsoft Office are read-only. This read-only property renders several menu options unavailable. Additionally, several of the menu commands (such as Copy to Collection on the Edit menu) are valid for clips only, and not for clip collections, and are available only when clips are selected in the right pane of Clip Organizer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
