PUB2002: Publisher Does Not Retain Page Size of Imported Word Document (279373)

SYMPTOMS

When you import a Word document with a page size smaller or larger than letter size (8.5 inches by 11 inches), the document is resized to letter-size pages. If you then resize the pages by using Page Setup, the text frames on each page are resized incorrectly for the publication page size.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:

After you import your Word document into Publisher, save the file in a temporary location, and then close it.
Start Publisher. On the File menu, click New, and then click New Publication in the task pane.
On the File menu, click Page Setup.
In the Page Setup dialog box, click the Layout tab. Set the page size and orientation that you want your publication to have, and then click OK.
On the Arrange menu, click Layout Guides, and then set the page margins that you want.
On the Objects toolbar, click Text Box, and then draw a text box that fits exactly within the layout guides.
On the Insert menu, click Text File.
Find the publication that you saved in step 1, and then click OK to insert it into the frame.
You may be asked whether you want to apply "autoflow" to the text file and whether you want to create new pages. Click OK for both.

Publisher imports the original publication into the new publication, at the size and orientation that you specified.
