XADM: Error "C103161ca" Occurs When Installing Active Directory Controller in a Child Domain (279304)

When you attempt to install Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory Connector (ADC) on a server that is in a child domain, you receive the following error message:
Setup was unable to find the Microsoft Exchange Specific Security Groups in
the active directory.

This error occurs even though the account that you are logged on as is a member of the schema administrator, enterprise administrator, and domain administrator groups in the root domain as well as a member of the built-in administrator group in the child domain.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, either install Windows 2000 ADC in the root domain, or use the Exchange 2000 version of ADC.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
