Disabling the Wireless Mobility Function Causes Push Messages to Generate NDR (279176)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server

This article was previously published under Q279176

SYMPTOMS

When a user has been provisioned with a wireless device, and has preferenced this device to push messages from the Exchange Server mailbox to the wireless device, if the Wireless Mobility function for that user is disabled in the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, any messages that are moved or copied into the Bound folder (the folder that forwards messages to their device) generate the following non-delivery report (NDR):

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

  Subject:	<subject>
  Sent:	11/9/2000 10:31 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

  IMCEADAVNP-http+3A__MMISNotify_Exchange2000EES_<username>_msgdrop@mobileinformationserver on 11/9/2000 10:45 AM
The message reached the recipient's e-mail system, but delivery was refused. Attempt to resend the message. If it still fails, contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Mobile Information Server Exchange Event Source continues to attempt to push messages to the user's wireless device when an item is placed in the Mobile Inbox folder in their mailbox.

WORKAROUND

It is not possible to stop the push messages from being sent. It is recommended that the user remove all rules that forward messages to that folder, and if necessary, copy all needed mail from that device's folder, and then delete the folder from the mailbox.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
