Renaming Exchange Virtual Directory Causes Outlook Mobile Access Connection Failure (278859)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server
This article was previously published under Q278859 SYMPTOMS
When you are administering a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Information Server, you may decide to customize the Exchange virtual directory and rename it. If you rename the virtual directory, it causes Outlook Mobile Access users to get the following error message when they try to connect to their mailbox:
HTTP 404 Not Found Resource Not Found
WORKAROUND
Rename the virtual directory back to "Exchange." Outlook Mobile Access is hard-coded to connect to user mailboxes at "http://server/exchange/user," and changing the virtual directory name to something else returns the error message in the "Symptoms" section.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
