PPT2002: OK and Cancel Buttons Are Not Visible in Play Movie Dialog Box (278581)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft PowerPoint, when you open the Play Movie dialog box, the OK and Cancel buttons may not be visible as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when your computer monitor screen resolution is set to 640 by 480 pixels, and the Microsoft Windows taskbar is set to Always on top. The OK and Cancel buttons are in the Play Movie dialog box, but they are hidden behind the Windows taskbar.

Microsoft Office XP is optimized for a setting of 800 by 600 pixels so that, with a lower monitor screen resolution, some commands and dialog boxes may be truncated or not completely visible.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change your monitor screen resolution to 800 by 600 pixels or higher.

To change the screen resolution of your monitor, follow these steps:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Display.
On the Settings tab, under Screen area, move the slide control toward More until the resolution setting is 800 by 600 pixels or higher.
Click OK.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Move the Play Movie Dialog Box

Move the Play Movie dialog box as far to the top of the screen area as possible. When you do so, the OK and Cancel buttons become partially visible and can be clicked.

Method 2: Move the Windows Taskbar

Drag the Windows taskbar to the left or right edge of the monitor screen.

Method 3: Hide the Windows Taskbar

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar & Start Menu.
On the General tab, click to clear the Always on top check box, and then click OK.
