SYMPTOMS
A Transact-SQL SELECT statement, which has a large number of elements in the IN clause, may fail with a STACK OVERFLOW exception. In some cases, this problem may cause the client application to disconnect.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem:
- Reduce the number of elements in the IN clause.
-or-
- Rewrite the query to not use an IN clause.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
