OL2002: Cannot Connect to Outlook Contacts Folder in Word Mail Merge by Using a New Profile (278158)

This article was previously published under Q278158 SYMPTOMS While Outlook 2002 is not running, when you try to use
Microsoft Word to perform a mail merge from your Outlook Contacts folder by
using a newly created profile, you receive the following error message Unable to obtain a list of tables from the data source.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, set Microsoft Outlook as your
default e-mail editor in Microsoft Internet Explorer. To do this:
- Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet
Options.
- Click the Programs tab.
- In the E-mail box , click
Microsoft Outlook.
- Click OK.

WORKAROUND To work around this problem, start Outlook in the profile
that you want to use before you use the mail merge operation in Word.
