Error Message: The Setupapi.dll File Is Linked to Missing Export Cfgmgr32.dll (277912)

SYMPTOMS

After you have installed MSN Explorer, The Microsoft Network, you may receive the following error message:
The Setupapi.dll file is linked to missing export Cfgmgr32.dll:CM_Get_Log_Conf_Priority.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when a program replaces the Cfgmgr32.dll file in the Windows\System folder with a copy earlier than version 4.10.1998.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Insert your Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. Type: sfc, and then click OK.
  4. Click Extract one file from installation disk.
  5. Type: cfgmgr32.dll, and then click Start.
  6. In the Restore from box, type: drive\win98

    Where drive is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  7. In the Save file in box, type: c:\windows\system, and then click OK.
  8. Click OK.
  9. When the file has been successfully extracted, click OK.
