FP98: FrontPage Prompt Recommends That You Install Personal Web Server on Windows Me (277769)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q277769 SYMPTOMS
When you try to install Microsoft FrontPage 98 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), you receive a prompt that recommends that you install the Microsoft Personal Web Server. You are not advised that Web servers are not supported on Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.
CAUSE
FrontPage 98 and all earlier versions are designed to work with a local Web server. Before the installation of FrontPage 98, Setup checks for a personal Web server. If a Web server is not found, Setup recommends that you install the Microsoft Personal Web Server. If you click No, Setup attempts to install the FrontPage Personal Web Server by default.
WORKAROUND
If you need a Web server for Web development on your local computer, it is recommended that you use Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows 2000 as your computer's operating system.
