Changing a Rule in an Orchestration Drawing May Affect Rules in Other Parts of the Drawing (276512)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000

This article was previously published under Q276512

SYMPTOMS

When you modify a rule in a decision shape, the same rule in a different shape may also be modified without notification of the change. This can have adverse affects on your Orchestration Drawing.

CAUSE

You cannot modify reused rules individually.

WORKAROUND

If you require different rules, then you must create unique rules. You cannot use existing rules.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in BizTalk Server 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

When you add a rule to a decision shape in the BizTalk Orchestration Designer and you already have rules that were created previously, you are prompted to either create a new rule or use an existing rule. When you choose to use an existing rule, it must match the original rule. If you change the existing rule, then the original rule is also changed.
