WD2002: Word Stops Responding or You Receive Error Message When Opening WordPerfect Document (275942)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a WordPerfect document in Microsoft Word, one or more of the following may occur:
  • The WordPerfect Graphics Import 8.0 dialog box appears, and Word stops responding (hangs).

    -or-
  • You receive the following error message:
    Document appears to be corrupt. Conversion may be incomplete.
    -or-
  • The text that follows a graphic image in the document is missing.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the WordPerfect file converter in Microsoft Word cannot convert some WordPerfect graphics files that are embedded in WordPerfect documents that were created in WordPerfect version 6.1 or later.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, open the document in WordPerfect, and then remove the graphic before you try to open the document in Microsoft Word.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
