SYMPTOMS

When you start Help and Support in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), the following behaviors may occur:
  • The links on the Home page may not function.
  • You may see only five links on the Home page.
  • The Index page may be blank.

CAUSE

These issues can occur if the file association for HTML Component (.htc) files is missing from the registry.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To resolve this issue, create the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.htc

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htc

After you create this key, add the following value to the new key:

Value Name: Content Type
Value Type: String
Value Data: text/x-component
