SYMPTOMS

When you move your mouse pointer slowly, the pointer may skip pixels and appear to jump around the screen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you configure the Microsoft IntelliPoint software to use the fastest Pointer Speed setting.

NOTE: When you configure the IntelliPoint software to use the faster Pointer Speed settings, the IntelliPoint software causes the pointer to skip pixels to increase the speed of the pointer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, configure the IntelliPoint software to use a slower Pointer Speed setting:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Mouse.
  3. On the Pointer Options tab, move the Pointer Speed slider one to five notches to the left.
  4. Click Advanced, click to select the Pointer acceleration check box, and then click Medium or High.
  5. Click Apply, and then test to determine if the pointer moves the way that you want. If the pointer does not move the way that you want, repeat steps 3 and 4 to adjust either the pointer speed or the pointer acceleration.
