WD2001: Macro Does Not Run As Expected and No Error Messages Appear (275414)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q275414

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Sub procedure (macro) in Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac, the macro may not run as expected and no error messages appear. The same macro in Microsoft Word 2000 works correctly or error messages appear.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the macro uses wdWildcard or wdAnagram values for the optional argument SuggestionMode in the GetSpellingSuggestions method. If the dictionary in Word 2000 does not support wildcards or anagram suggestions, then there is a runtime error. If the dictionary in Word 2001 does not support wildcards or anagram suggestions, there is no runtime error.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2001 for Mac.

MORE INFORMATION

If the dictionary in Word 2000 does not support anagrams or wildcards, the following (or similar) error messages will appear:
Runtime error '5036'
The speller does not support anagram mode.

Runtime error '5035'
The speller does not support wildcard mode.
