SYMPTOMS

When you paste a WordArt image or an AutoShape into a Microsoft Word e-mail message, the object is pasted as an inline picture rather than a floating object.

NOTE: To use Word as your e-mail editor, start Microsoft Outlook 2002, and then click Options on the Tools menu. On the Mail Format tab, click to select the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box, and then click OK.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use any of the appropriate methods for your situation.

Method 1: Paste as an MS Office Drawing Object

Paste your WordArt or AutoShape object into a Word e-mail message as an MS Office Drawing Object. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In the file that contains the object that you want to copy, select the WordArt or AutoShape object, and then click Copy on the Edit menu.
  2. On the Edit menu in your Word e-mail message, click Paste Special.
  3. In the Paste Special dialog box, select MS Office Drawing Object, and then click OK.

Method 2: Create and Send the Document from Word

Create your e-mail message as a Word document, and then send your document that contains the WordArt or AutoShape object directly from Word:
  1. In Word, create your document that contains the WordArt or AutoShape object.
  2. On the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Mail Recipient.
  3. Type the recipient's e-mail address, a subject, and an introduction, if you want. Then click Send a Copy.

Method 3: Format the Object as Floating

To select the In front of text wrapping style, follow these steps:
  1. Click to select the WordArt or AutoShape object in your Word e-mail message.
  2. On the Format menu, click WordArt or Picture.
  3. On the Format WordArt or Format Picture dialog box, select the Layout tab.
  4. Select the In front of text option, and then click OK.
