This article was previously published under Q273984 For a Microsoft Word 2000 version of this article, see 220398.
SYMPTOMS
When you have items in a document that are underlined and preceded by an AUTONUM field, and you print the document, the underline beneath the AUTONUM field is positioned differently from the underline beneath the text. When you view the document in print preview or print layout view, the underline may appear correct.
This problem may occur with other fields, such as the MACROBUTTON field or the SYMBOL field, when the font size varies between the field and the surrounding text.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you use a different font for the text than for the AUTONUM field.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, apply the same font to both the AUTONUM field and the text that follows it.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
