WD2002: Visual Basic for Applications CharacterWidth Property Returns 9999999 (273967)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word, when you use the CharacterWidth property in a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications function form to return the width of a character or characters in a Visual Basic for Applications procedure, the value returned may be 9999999.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur after you install the Japanese or Korean Input Method Editor (IME), and you then create a Visual Basic for Applications macro that sets the character width by using the wdWidthFullWidth constant of the CharacterWidth property.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
