WD2002: Table Cell Border Color Is Retained for Entire Table When Document Is Saved as Web Page (273950)

This article was previously published under Q273950 For a Microsoft Word 2000 version of this article, see 220269.
SYMPTOMS
When you save a Word document as a Web page (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page) with a table that contains at least one cell with a different border or border color than the rest of the table, the entire table is bordered with a single-line border style, and the border color of the entire table is changed to that of the table cell.
WORKAROUND
The functionality of changing the table to a single-line border style is by design in Microsoft Word when you save as a Web page. Only certain table border styles are supported in a Web page (HTML). As a result, incompatible table border styles are converted to single-line borders.
However, the color change for the entire table when you save your Word document as a Web page is a problem in Microsoft Word. To retain a particular border color for a table cell, follow these steps:
- Save your Word document as a Web page (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page).
- Select the table cell that you want to be bordered with a different border color.
- On the Format menu, click Borders and Shading.
- On the Borders tab, change the Color box to the color that you want the table cell bordered with, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
