SYMPTOMS

When you save a Word document as a Web page (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page) with a table that contains at least one cell with a different border or border color than the rest of the table, the entire table is bordered with a single-line border style, and the border color of the entire table is changed to that of the table cell.

WORKAROUND

The functionality of changing the table to a single-line border style is by design in Microsoft Word when you save as a Web page. Only certain table border styles are supported in a Web page (HTML). As a result, incompatible table border styles are converted to single-line borders.

However, the color change for the entire table when you save your Word document as a Web page is a problem in Microsoft Word. To retain a particular border color for a table cell, follow these steps:
  1. Save your Word document as a Web page (on the File menu, click Save as Web Page).
  2. Select the table cell that you want to be bordered with a different border color.
  3. On the Format menu, click Borders and Shading.
  4. On the Borders tab, change the Color box to the color that you want the table cell bordered with, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
