Crimson Skies: Heads-Up Text Gauges Do Not Appear on the Screen (273920)

SYMPTOMS

When you fly a mission in Microsoft Crimson Skies, the heads-up text gauges for your aircraft may not appear on the screen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You configured Crimson Skies to run in 3D Software mode.
  • You changed the Default View setting in Crimson Skies to First Person.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

Cycle Through the Views

To restore the heads-up text gauges for your aircraft in the First Person view, press the F8 key three times to change the view to Cockpit, Exterior, and then back to First Person.

Change the Default View Setting

To change the Default View setting in Crimson Skies:

  1. On the Crimson Skies startup screen, click Preferences.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Click Game Preferences.
  4. In the Default View box, click Cockpit or Exterior, and then click Accept Changes.
  5. Click Return to Main Menu.
To change to a different view when you fly a mission, press the F8 key.

Configure the Game to Run in 3D Hardware Mode

To configure the game to run in 3D Hardware mode, click Accelerator - Primary Display Driver in the Video Device box when you start the game, and then click OK.

NOTE: The Accelerator - Primary Display Driver setting is only available if a Direct3D-compatible video adapter is installed in your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Crimson Skies.
