SYMPTOMS

A Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 812C printer that is connected to a parallel port may print half of an image on one page, eject the page, and continue to print some or all of the remaining image on a second page.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a Micro Solutions Backpack Parallel Port External CD-RW (Model #190130) is installed on your computer. The CD-RW shares the parallel port with other parallel devices, which can cause it to interfere with the HP DeskJet 812C printer and the Microsoft Windows 2000 print driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Locate Backpack Finder, and then click Finder Settings.
  3. Make unavailable LPT Interrupts, LPT Port Type, and Backpack Detection.
