PPT2001: Graphic Compression Settings Don't Reduce File Size When You Save as PICT (273695)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q273695

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Mac presentation in Macintosh Picture (PICT) format, if you change the level of compression, you may not succeed in changing the size or quality of the saved files.

CAUSE

This behavior can be caused by the conversion to PICT format. Not all slides can be compressed by changing the image quality setting.

WORKAROUND

If you need to save slides in PICT format and want to reduce the size of the files, change the background to a single color instead of a gradient, texture, pattern, or picture.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
