This article was previously published under Q273692

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation in Macintosh Picture (PICT) or Scrapbook format, rotated text may unexpectedly appear jagged.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if PowerPoint saves the rotated text in a resolution of 72 dots per inch (dpi). All graphics saved in Scrapbook format are saved in 72-dpi resolution. Graphics saved in PICT format are saved in 72-dpi to 1600-dpi resolution, with 72 dpi being the default setting.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Change Resolution and Save in PICT Format

  1. Open the PowerPoint presentation.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save dialog box, click Macintosh Picture (PICT) in the Format drop-down list, and then click Options.
  4. In the Preferences dialog box, click to select the Dots per inch (dpi) check box, and then select a resolution of 300 dpi or more in the Dots per inch (dpi) pop-up list.
  5. Click OK, and then click Save.

Method 2: Save in a Different Format

  1. Open the PowerPoint presentation.
  2. On the File menu, click Save As.
  3. In the Save dialog box, select a format other than PICT or Scrapbook in the Format drop-down list, and then click Save.

Method 3: Copy Slides to Scrapbook

  1. Open the PowerPoint presentation.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  4. On the Apple menu, click Scrapbook.
  5. In Scrapbook, on the Edit menu, click Paste.
