ENT2001: Compressed File Attachments Do Not Decompress When You Receive Messages (273534)

WORKAROUND

Apple Macintosh uses the Aladdin Systems StuffIt program for file compression. This program can both reduce the size of a large file before you send the file in a message and include multiple files in a single archive. The Apple Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS) 8.0 and later, includes a version of StuffIt Expander that can decompress Stuffit archives. You can identify the StuffIt archive by the ".sit" extension that is appended to a file name.

To decompress a file archive by using StuffIt Expander:

1. Click your StuffIt archive in the e-mail message, and then click Save. Note the folder location of the saved archive.
2. Locate the StuffIt archive that you saved in step 1.
3. Double-click the StuffIt archive. The archive is decompressed and separates its constituent parts to their original state. By default, StuffIt Expander places the decompressed file in the same location as the original archive.

NOTE: If you receive a message with an attachment that uses a compression technology other than StuffIt, ask the person that sent you the message what they used to create the archive. In most cases, the procedure that is described in this section can work by using an installed compression technology.
