ENT2001: The Macintosh Sleep Mode Suspends Message Transfers (273521)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q273521

SYMPTOMS

After you transfer messages in Entourage, your Apple Macintosh computer goes into Sleep mode. When your Macintosh computer wakes from Sleep mode, the messages that you transferred are suspended at the point that your computer went into Sleep mode.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Sleep mode is a setting in the Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS) that allows the computer's resources to be saved without turning the computer off. Your Macintosh computer saves more energy when it wakes from Sleep mode than when you start your Macintosh computer from a power off state. This is useful to conserve battery power when you use a Macintosh laptop such as an Apple Macintosh PowerBook or an Apple Macintosh iBook.

If you use the Sleep mode to conserve energy and have many messages to transfer, set the Sleep mode to Never. To do this:
  1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and then click Energy Saver.
  2. In the Energy Saver dialog box, move the slider to Never in the Put the system to sleep whenever it's inactive for box.
  3. To customize these settings, click Show Details, and then adjust the Separate timing for display sleep and the Separate timing for hard disk sleep sliders to different times.
  4. Close the Energy Saver control panel to save the new settings.
If you manually set the computer to Sleep mode by using the Power-on switch, wait for the file transfer to complete before you start the sleep mode. For more information about Sleep mode on Macintosh computers, browse to the Apple Technical Info Library at the following Macintosh Web site:

Type sleep in the Search box at Item #2, and then click Search at Item #3.
