ENT2001: You Are Not Notified of New Messages on Your POP3 Server (273510)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q273510

SYMPTOMS

There is not an option available that notifies you of new messages on your Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server in Entourage.

WORKAROUND

Use the information in the following section to work around this behavior.

How to Use Allow Online Access

Use the Allow Online Access feature in Entourage to simulate the option of receiving notification for new messages on your POP3 server. To activate the Allow Online Access feature:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts, click to select the POP3 account check box, and then click Edit.
  2. In the Edit Account dialog box, click the Options tab.
  3. In the Server Options tab, click to select the Allow online access (shows account in the folder list) check box.
  4. Click OK, and then close the Edit Account dialog box.
An icon is added to the folder list that has the name of your POP3 account. You can click this icon and receive a list of the items that are currently on the server. You do not have to download the messages to read and delete them. You can leave messages on the server so that they are available in subsequent sessions. To download all messages from the server, click Send & Receive.
