An Internet e-mail address is considered to be fully qualified when it has the necessary elements of a user identifier and a domain. The following is an example: Many organizations use an intranet, which uses Internet standards, for their internal messaging. In an intranet environment, you receive messages through either a Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) or an Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) server , and you send messages though a Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) server. All users share the same domain. A message that is addressed to username has the domain automatically appended to the partial name that you type in the message. For example, username becomes username@enterprise.com when you send the message.

To set messages to use the domain for unqualified addresses:

1. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
2. In the Accounts dialog box, click the account that you want to configure, and then click Edit.
3. On the Account Settings tab, click Sending Mail, and then click Click here for advanced sending options.
4. In the Domain for Unqualified Addresses box, type your domain for all of your addressees that you want appended for unqualified recipients.
5. Click OK, and then close the Accounts dialog box.
